ANCB General Assembly 2012

The first General Assembly of ANCB members for the year 1391 was launched in Kabul Star Hotel, Kabul on 23, May, 2012. The gathering commenced with recitation of few verses from holy Quran.
Then Mohammad Nasib Ahmadi, Chairman, ANCB welcomed the participants and presented ANCB’s Background of activities during the year 1391 (2011/2012). Then he requested Eng. Sattar to deliver ANCB’s annual activity report for the year1391. He further mentioned, despite financial constraints that ANCB is facing this body had some achievements too.
Eng. Sattar said, on behalf of Afghan NGOs, ANCB the board members have participated in various national and international meetings. He further added that ANCB will invite other Afghan CSOs for developing a common strategy.
According to agenda the other speaker was Dr. Ahmad Jan Ahmad, Executive Director, ANCB that presented the financial statement year 1390 (21 April, 2011 to 1, May, 2012). He appreciated the ANCB Board members and other member NGOs for their contributions with ANCB.
Then an interesting poem was declaimed by Ammanullah Nasrat.
The other speaker of the meeting was Mr. Basirat, the Director for Department of NGOs, Ministry of Economy. He talked about the role of ANCB and said it is a good opportunity to inform ANCB member NGOs for submitting their activity reports to the MoEc. He also pointed out that NGO’s data could be used in government’s development planning. He added we hope all NGOs will present their activities by holding such meetings and be accountable and transparent like ANCB.
Next speaker was Lal Mohammad Walizada, Director for Department of Economy, Kabul Province. He appreciated the gathering held by ANCB and said this umbrella is always cooperative with our department. He also requested the participants to cooperate with the government in development activities especially in Kabul province. He further added as the participants are aware that he is in-charge of the economy department of Kabul province but requests NGOs and civil society organizations for better performance and cooperation with government in whole Afghanistan.
Roohul Amin the previous Governor of Farah Province was the other person that delivered his speech to the meeting who addressed the assembly. He said he was a member of the civil society that also worked with government. Congratulating ANCB he also appreciated the management for transparent and democratic elections process. He added I was really surprised when attending the ceremony very special thing than other Afghan ceremonies and meetings was the on-time beginning of the gathering, while almost all Afghan gatherings are not started on time and exact time, they are always late. He further added that ANCB is now 21 years old. During this time, ANCB has experienced a lot of activities in various sectors, especially during Jehad times, when there was no government in majority regions of the country and the NGOs’ community was engaged in delivery assistance in Afghanistan. ANCB was the leading body for regulation of the NGOs activities. A number of conferences and seminars on various fields have been conducted I am one of the participants attended these activities.
As conclusion I can say that ANCB has a lot of achievements in national level.
Mr. Beyzhan one of journalists also delivered a speech and admired ANCB for such gatherings which he pointed that can be a sign of unity especially CSOs level. He added it could be a voice of unity of our nation and the election process is a sign of democracy. He also appreciated the achievements of ANCB.
The second session was allotted for elections of ANCB’s Chairman and its Members of Board of Directors, while Eng. Mohammad Karim, Director, ACLU, Eng. Raz Mohammad, IHSAN, Mr. Baseerat, Director of NGOs department, MoEc, Roshan Sirran, THRA, Lal Gul, AHRO and. Lewa Anwary, AWN, were elected as members of the election commission.
It is worth mentioning that total 60 member NGOs participated the elections, while 56 votes were counted correct out of total 60 votes. It has to be added, that 15 members were elected for the ANCB Board of Directors.
As the results of elections 15 Directors of member NGOs including 4 female were elected as the new board membership. The ANCB charter has specifies that the number of Board of Directors ANCB should be 14 plus one Chairman. A change for number of the board members was proposed to general assembly while the change in charter and number of board of directors were decided by the majority of present membership.

Subsequently, the results of the voting were declared by the election commission.

Mohammad Nasib, Director WADAN and the farmer chairman, ANCB the un-opposed candidate for the chairmanship was elected as chairman of ANCB.
At the end all participants were invited for the lunch. After the lunch the first meeting of the board of directors was chaired by the chairman Mohammad Nasib. He congratulated the board members as well as welcomed the new comers to the ANCB board of directors.
Agenda of the meeting:
1- The selection of vice chairman
2- Selection of Treasurer
3- Preparation of the list participants for the of CSOs gathering for the election of members to Tokyo Conference.
Eng. Sattar was elected unopposed as the vice chairman while Mrs. Anaheeta, FARDA was selected as Treasurer meanwhile Eng. Taous Sajid, APA was selected as assistance for the Treasurer of ANCB for one year duration.
The board decided that 14 board members and Malika Qanih will be the candidates of ANCB for Kabul National Conference. Eng. Aman was candidate of AREP in Logar province.
